ABOUT PLAINFIELD SPORTS
Text Box: About Us

Originally begun as a small web site to facilitate communications amongst a few coaches and a few teams, PlainfieldSports.com has grown to include all sports in the Plainfield, Illinois area. We have no affiliation with any of the sports organizations, except as coaches sometimes. As such, we are not always aware of all the registration dates, schedules, tournaments or events associated with all the sports organizations in Plainfield. We have links to most of the local sports leagues and it is best to go directly to the organizations to get the latest information. Our goal is to make this the “Go To” place for sports information in this area. Creating a single point of contact will make it easier for players and parents to remember where to look for team updates.

We will link to the web site of any sports team wishing to be associated with our site.  Not only will this be useful for disseminating information and scheduling, but you can participate in our “Accolades” blog to showcase the talented youth from Plainfield and the surrounding communities. Please, email us (info@plainfieldsports.com) if you know of any organizations that should be included on our site.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help write content for the new “Announcements” and “Accolades” blogs. Contributors can be coaches, team moms or leaders of the various clubs and organizations. If you would like to participate, email us at info@plainfieldsports.com and request inclusion as a writer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question #1: How can I get a web site for you to link to?

Answer: There are several ways to get a web site. Most conventional ways have fees for domain names and hosting sites. A relatively new approach is to get yourself a free Google email address. With a Google email address, you can not only have a small, free Google web site, but you can also have a free Google calendar. Use the calendar for your practice and game schedule. Insert the Google calendar into your web site and send us the link to your site.

Another option is to create a Google blog and insert a calendar link into the blog. A blog gives you more space for writing and inserting pictures. You can even insert a photo slideshow. If you are particularly adventurous, you could add videos, too.

Whatever process you choose, we’ll put a link under your particular sport and you’ll be ready to go. These methods allow you to access and edit your information from anywhere in the world and our link to your site will always be current!

Question #2: Your child performed an outstanding feat. How does it get included in the “Accolades” blog?

Answer: First of all, we need to address what qualifies for outstanding. Sports accomplishments that go above and beyond the ordinary are considered for inclusion. Little Johnny showing up for all the practices does not constitute a major accomplishment...maybe for Johnny, but not as far as anyone else is concerned. Someone who bowls a 300 game, a pitcher who pitches a no hitter or maybe a running back who runs over 100 yards in a game qualifies for inclusion. This isn’t intended to diminish the efforts of a person’s teammates, but to highlight the exceptional athletes among us.

There are two ways to include articles in our “Announcements” and “Accolades” blogs. Coaches, team Moms or league administrators can get login access by emailing us at info@plainfieldsports.com and requesting inclusion as a writer. The other method is to write us an email with all the details and we will insert the article for you.

Question #3: PlainfieldSports.com has quite a few advertisements. Why?

Answer: PlainfieldSports.com is a free information web site. We understand how costly things can get when coaches “volunteer” their services. It never seems to fail that this volunteerism ends up costing the coaches money in some form or another. We truly believe youth sports are “all about the kids” and we don’t feel comfortable charging coaches for something we hope will benefit our children. The only revenue PlainfieldSports.com receives is from clicks to the advertisements on our sites or from the businesses who have rented advertising banner space. Anyone wishing to advertise on our site can email us at info@plainfieldsports.com for more information.

Question #4: My league has a Google calendar. Can you link to it?

Answer: Yes, we can. Send us a link (info@plainfieldsports.com) to your calendar and we can incorporate it in our PlainfieldSports.com calendar. Please, send us the calendar link for the league itself in this situation. Because there are so many teams in Plainfield, we don’t want to clutter up the calendar with team schedules. Team calendars will be handled under the specific team areas.

Question #5: I’m looking at the Google calendar, but I only want to see one sport. Can I do that?

Answer: Yes, you can. In the top, right hand corner of the calendar, next to “Agenda”, there is a small arrow pointing down. Click this arrow and it will allow you to filter the calendars. Uncheck those you don’t want to see. FYI...click on the “Agenda” tab and it will give you a list view of upcoming events.
